The Țării Crișurilor Museum Publishing House was founded in 1998 and belongs to the Țării Crișurilor Museum Oradea – Museum Complex. It continues the publishing activity of the museum, started in the 1970s, by publishing books, monographs, study volumes, collection and exhibition catalogs, as well as brochures specific to the museum’s fields of activity: archaeology and history, ethnography, art, natural sciences, but also from related fields. At the same time, the Țării Crișurilor Museum Publishing House publishes three yearbooks: Biharea (ethnography and art), Crisia (archaeology and history) and Nymphaea (natural sciences).

The editorial activity has materialized, over the years, by publishing works by museographers, employees of the institution, as well as specialists from Bihor County and Romania. These include historical works such as Istoria Bihorului (The History of Bihor) (2018), monographs of localities such as Salonta, Vadu Crișului, Derna, Varviz, Girișu de Criș, Ștei, Țețchea (Bihor County), Camăr, Valcău de Jos (Sălaj County), albums on the villages in the upper Bistra Valley (Bihor County), as well as studies on the history of art and architecture in Oradea, folklore and the rural world, natural sciences, including tribute volumes dedicated to museographers with long-term activity in the institution. The Țării Crișurilor Museum Publishing House also publishes exhibition catalogs and catalogs of collections held by the museum institution.

Distribution methods: Books published by the Țării Crișurilor Museum Publishing House are distributed to the Legal Depositories of the “Gheorghe Șincai” Bihor County Library, respectively the National Library of Romania. Through the Library of the Țării Crișurilor Museum, these reach, in the form of interlibrary exchange, the collections of over 60 public, university and museum libraries in Romania and abroad. Books published by the Țării Crișurilor Museum Publishing House are sold in the institution’s own store and online.

Attracting new titles/collaborators: The Țării Crișurilor Museum Publishing House is open to publishing works in the fields of: archaeology/history, art, ethnography and folklore, natural sciences and their auxiliary sciences (numismatics, historiography, history and theory of art, history of literature, etc.). The authors’ proposals will be clearly formulated and accompanied by their works in a version as close to the final as possible and sent via editura@mtariicrisurilor.ro. The proposals are analyzed by the series coordinators, and in case of acceptance, they are sent to peer-review. The Țării Crișurilor Museum Publishing House will keep in touch with potential collaborators throughout this process. At the same time, the Țării Crișurilor Museum Publishing House keeps in touch with existing collaborators, in order to choose to continue publishing under its aegis.
